An unsettling glance into a dystopian future

Handmaid's Tale is a film based on a 1985 novel by Margaret Atwood of the same name. The film stars Kate Winslet as Offred, a woman trapped in a world that has gone to hell. First, fertility rates dropped and the environment got poisoned. Then radical conservatives took over. All women's bank accounts were closed, and they lost all political power.

Some women were rounded up and killed, some were deemed wives and allowed to live normal lives, and others were enslaved. As a handmaid, Offred must have sex with her master in elaborate ceremonies in hopes of bearing children for him and his wife. In case she fails, or if she's caught breaking the rules, she'll be sent to the Colonies to clean up toxic waste. There's just one problem: Offred doesn't believe. All she wants is to break free, hurt those who have hurt her, and somehow find the daughter the state took.
