Le Bazar de la Charité is an 8 episode French Netflix series that follows the events of the 1897 Bazar de la Charite fire in Paris. With slick cinematography, high-end production value, and a talented cast, the show focuses on the melodramatic effects of the tragedy and follows 3 characters: Rose, who is badly burned and takes on the identity of a wealthy woman who died in the fire; Adrienne, who searches for her daughter whom her husband believes to be dead; and Alice, who is faced with hard truths surrounding her partner and whose heart strays to Victor, the man accused of being the arsonist. While the series is engaging and the costume and production design are excellent, it focuses more on the melodrama and character issues than the historical accuracy of the events.
